Embedded Software Engineer in Hamilton

Job description

Currently, we are looking to attract a talented and passionate Embedded Software Engineer to contribute in the development of new technologies and improvement of existing automation products for the dairy industry. The ideal embedded software developer will be working in conjunction with the Hardware, Software and Research teams to achieve the best outcome.

Our customer’s parent organisation is a large multinational company with more than 57,000 employees and presence in more than 60 countries, with the main focus on developing products for medical, biological and animal health related fields. Their NZ branch is located in the mighty Waikato region in Hamilton, where they develop novel farm automation technologies.

 

Responsibilities and duties

 

  • Lead research and development initiatives for new product development and product upkeep, taking responsibility for the firmware design and development and creation and publishing of supporting documentation.
  • Embedded software/firmware development for automation products.
  • Test plan creation, performance of test scenarios, collecting and analysing data and documenting test results and observations.
  • Participate in regular code and/or product design reviews.
  • Provide development time and cost estimates for new technical concepts and initiatives, including both high level and detailed estimates.
  • Provide technical support for delivery teams when implementing research, development or validation work on new or improved products.
  • Provide support for the sales and field service team when required to resolve escalated technical support request.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge in your area of expertise and provide expertise within the Hardware Systems team in embedded software.

Skills and experience

Overall skills required to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in embedded software development or similar field, with sufficient experience in product development setting.
  • Firmware design and development experience on microcontroller platforms, such as 8051, 32-bit ARM and STM32 families.
  • Strong experience developing firmware in C/C++.
  • Extensive background designing, implementing and debugging communications using I2C, SPI, CAN, UART and Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python and/or Power shell for task automation.
  • It would be idea to have experience in embedded systems automated testing and C# development for standalone PC Apps.
