R&D Algorithm Engineer in Sydney

Job description

Our customer is an international manufacturer with more than 30 years of experience in optical communication components and subsystems. Their products include optical transceivers, optical engines, instrumentation and other wavelength management subsystems that enable high-speed voice, video and data communications for networking, storage, wireless and TV applications that affect billions of users worldwide.

Their Australian branch is seeking a talented R&D Algorithms Engineer to join the Sydney Team. The ideal candidate will play a key part in the development of the world leading Wavelength-Selective-Switch (WSS) and related optical products. This an opportunity to belong to a dynamic environment with a high level of cooperation with other engineers and scientists.

As an R&D team member youwill develop cutting-edge calibration and optimisation algorithms, and help with the translation of our exciting new products from early prototype testing phases through to automated production systems.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Develop creative optimisation algorithms and implement these into high quality software.
  • Transfer the new routines from validation through to production, typically using Python and LabView development platforms.
  • Use the latest data science and machine learning tools on the large amounts of data generated to achieve insights and help develop great products.
  • Opportunities for hands-on experimentation with prototype devices in our well-equipped R&D lab.

Skills and experience

  • Qualifications in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computational Science at a high level (Masters or PhD)
  • Strong Mathematical and Analytical Skills
  • In-depth knowledge of topics in the fields of Optics, Photonics, Physical Modelling or Signal Processing.
  • Experience implementing algorithms in programming languages such as Python, LabView or C/C++.
  • Strong coding skills and understanding of the software engineering fundamentals such as object oriented design and data structures.
  • A willingness to experiment rapidly, master the detail and bring tasks to completion
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

The experience range for this position could vary between a recently graduated PhD to someone with 10+ years of experience. We want to see what you could bring to the table in the fields of Optics, Photonics, Signal processing – and the salary would change accordingly.
