Process Development and NPI Engineer in Auckland

Job description

Our customer is one of the largest manufacturers of frequency control products and timing solutions. Their products can be found at the heart of many applications, from 5G networks to satellites and from emergency beacons to autonomous vehicles.

We are looking for a talented individual to undertake process development and NPI activities related to processes which enable new product developments, knowledge development and manufacturing improvements; also to manage, facilitate and co-ordinate NPI activities and ensure that NPD projects produce the required outcomes within the tolerances of time, cost, quality, benefits, scope and risk.

Some of the duties may include:

  • Participation in NPI activities in either a process development or a project lead role as assigned
  • Liaise with R&D Engineers in the early design process to ensure designs consider DFM, DFA and DFT
  • Provide process engineering innovation and implementation to new product introduction projects in line with the latest technologies available
  • Provide support for the selection and installation of new manufacturing equipment and ongoing optimisation to support new process/product development
  • Develop method/designs for future process development to enable control and optimisation of process performance in line with best practises
  • Provide technical support to programme, engineering and technical managers to ensure that processes and products are manufacturable with high yields and low manufacturing costs.
  • Develop process validation documentation to support implementation of new processes including PFMEA’s, MSA’s
  • Provide support and co-ordination to external sub-contractors used on new product developments
  • Maintain and develop relationships with speciality assembly and material suppliers
  • Provide mechanical design work both detailed and concept for new tooling required within process/product development activities
  • Provide regular reporting of activities and NPI project status
  • Provide technical support to Quality RMA activities
  • Conceptualise and champion changes in production processes and methods to achieve improvements in yield, efficiency and quality.
  • Produce equipment and process operational documentation in accordance with Rakon standards and ISO9001 and TS16949 quality procedures
  • Comply with Rakon’s quality, environmental and health and safety procedures so as to proactively develop a culture of, continuous quality improvement and the provision of a healthy and safe workplace
  • Collaborate effectively within the team & cross-functional teams within the NZ BU and globally. Always work to demonstrate and encourage behaviour’s in alignment with company values in all interactions.

Skills and experience

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in process development or an NPI role
  • The ability to apply knowledge of process and materials in the development of new products
  • Understanding of process development employing best practices for NPI/NPD projects including DFM, DFA and DFT
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control. Use of run charts process capability studies etc.
  • Exposure to mechanical engineering design both at concept and detailed level
  • Familiarity with advanced technology developments in electronics manufacturing and relevant fields
  • DOE application and analysis
